What a difference a little sunshine makes? Here in Edinburgh the sun has come out with a smile on its face today and is expected to work its magic over the weekend. We’ve had a busy week and taking a little time for ourselves over the weekend is going to feel like a very indulgent luxury, but worth every moment of it. I’m looking out of the window now and can see the early morning sunshine already covering everything in its happiness. The smile on my face reminds me of how good you feel when lovely days like this come along.
Some of the seeds we’ve planted began to sprout this week, which has been hugely encouraging. We are both feeling wonderfully confident in our new life but also recognise we have some work to do yet. Step by step though it is coming to life in front of us and we are both sure, more than ever, that we are doing the right thing. We talked last night about how it is difficult to leave the corporate world behind and see yourself living a life how you want to live it, how you feel you are meant to live it and not according to the way others condition you into living it. It feels liberating but also scary too, overcoming those fears of leaving behind what isn’t right for you is getting easier in small pieces, but it is still something there to be overcome. We are off into the garden now to enjoy the Sunshine together. Enjoy your weekend!
Some days, things happen that just bring an enormous smile to your face and a wonderful feeling of warmth that there are lots of really nice people in the world. Today was one of those days. Suky from Auranics sent us a mail today introducing us to a company called Conscious Food who, to us, seem like a wonderful bunch.
What a wonderfully thoughtful thing for Suky to do though. To go out of her way to send an email to us to tell us about this, to do it for someone she has never met. I think it is heart warming that someone would do that. It made us both smile and feel like she had brightened up our day. Thank you Suky.
Alright, so perhaps the new diet is going to take some getting used to, I admit. The days are going so quickly at the moment that making meals has dropped low down our list of things we need to do. After a particularly long day earlier this week, we discovered ourselves sitting in the living room in the early evening thinking that we just didn’t want to cook so a healthy vegetarian pizza from Domino’s was hastily ordered and consumed. We are allowed the odd indulgence for now we agreed.
On the whole though, the diet has been going exceptionally well. Last night we had a very simple, but tasty, White bean and herb recipe from the yoga cookbook. It took about 10 minutes to make, involved about 5 ingredients and hit the spot instantly, definitely a recipe to keep and re-use.

Neither of us have started a business before so whilst the last few weeks have been exciting, they have also been hectic. Working more hours than we thought possible in a day certainly takes it out of you and we are both feeling the impact, but the energy between us is making it all feel natural and easy. It has amazed us how much you have to put into things to get anything, no matter how small, in return. The immense variety of things to think about and act upon is also breath taking; but fun.
Today I put most of my effort into sourcing some suppliers who can provide us with some of the superfoods we want to offer. It’s so easy to get carried away looking for that perfect supplier who can provide everything you need in one hit, but the reality is that sourcing from many different suppliers is much more pragmatic. It is also shocking the variation on price for source products from which you can produce things. One of the things I was looking into today had a variation of almost 50% for no obvious signs of quality difference, which makes the task even more difficult. After a long day searching out suppliers and calling around it feels like we have what we need for the moment.
Nichola and I were discussing this afternoon how much this is consuming us too. A new business is one thing, creating a new lifestyle for yourself at the same time only adds to the experience. I would imagine though that anyone starting up a new business is likely to feel their lifestyle changes along side it too, but somehow this feels different I feel because we are intending on doing it.
It is amazing how much confidence you discover too when going through the process of setting up something like this. The sheer volume of things which you have to juggle at any one point in time means you get forced into making decisions in a very short space of time to ensure you don’t loose any momentum. This was evident tonight when on the way to teaching her yoga class for pregnant ladies, Nichola realised that she had forgotten some notes she wanted to use. What would normally have created a mad rush to turn back home and get them at all costs ended up being a shrug of the shoulders, a smile, and a “I’ll just go on and do it” kind of response. The confidence to do that had always been there it felt like, but this forced it out due to being consumed in thought with Hectors Farm. Not a bad thing at all.
